Werkself triumphs over ‘Gladbach 3-1!
By: Ulf | December 6th, 2008
Bruno Labbadia’s demands for a victory today were met as Leverkusen defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1. The victory brings Leverkusen to within three points of Bayern and Hoffenheim who are tied at first with thirty-four points. It did not start easy for Leverkusen as a motivated ‘Gladbach nearly scored a minute into the match as Roberto Colautti headed Marko Marin’s cross off the post. However it wasn’t long till Swiss international Tranquillo Barnetta created opportunities for Patrick Helmes and Stefan Kießling. The pace of the match was fast and twenty-five minutes in Stefan Kießling struck a powerful goal from top right side of box to far bottom corner. ‘Gladbach was far from out of it and fought back hard but once again the German international were their nemesis as Kießling volleyed Michal Kadlec’s cross in. The twenty-three year-old Kadlec is on loan from Sparta Praha, has been a brilliant find for the club and created a number of good opportunities today. The match went to 3-0 at the fifty-fourth minutes as Stefan Kießling found a open Patrick Helmes on the right side of the box, who then drove the ball into the net. Tony Jantschke brought ‘Gladbach to within one, heading in from the middle of the box and with the goal his side came roaring back. Michael Bradley and the Canadian Rob Friend nearly scored again with minutes however Leverkusen slowly turned the pace of the match down and were able to hold off further challenges winning 2-1.

Hey ulf, I am a Barca fan and at Levurkusen is a Barca loan out defender named Henrique. Since I cannot watch german football often I am asking you to please put a small review on the defense on your posts. Thank you.

That would be no problem and all. Henrique is a very fine center-back and surprised that Barcelona would loan him out. He paired up well with Manuel Friedrich today – most problems came from flanking assaults but they closed off well. I will add to my posts. Are you a Brazilian fan as well?

Ulf, what do you think of constant djakpa? I watched bayer’s season opener against dortmund and thought that his long balls were a constant threat. I dont think ive seen him play since than because of kadlec though….

No I’m not a fan of Brazilians, but some are the greatest players. About why Barca loaned him out…He needed to adapt to European game as well as have more play time. About the flanking assualts… can’t the coach switch Henrique as left back or right back when needed? I know he once played at the wings when a player was injured but I’m saying even without an injury. And thank you for the help.

Great to see us winning again. Three points gap is all right, seeing we’re approaching the halfway point. As Sir Alex Ferguson is fond of saying, three points in touch of the leaders around Christmas is a good place to be.
I have other questions regarding the team but I’ll hold my tongue till I see how we do in the later half of the season.

Ulf – great start, you’re doing very well. See you on the pitch in a few hours and I’ll bother you that you have comments to answer – hahaha

Flippy – now I understand. With the flanking assault I meant inter-match. Hans Meyer was wise to try and pull them out with Bradley and Friend very inventive. It’s a smart tactic for ‘Gladbach that came very close. If you have questions for Henrique, I can always contact him and see if he’ll answer. My Portuguese is coming along so he might appreciate the attempt.
Steven – Constant Djakpa is a very good player who possesses a creative eye and a bit sly with his play. I hope we’ll see more of him soon.
Hikaru – I agree, it is a very good situation. Mental lapses have been the concern and indecision on the break have held them back. Hopefully VfB and Schalke come up big this weekend and we can squeeze in level

You can contact him?!
That is sooo coool!
Well…I’ve read some interviews so I got some pretty clear ideas of how he plays…No need for you to waste some time…
I just heard that he has played almost always for Bayer and I’ve heard he was Man of the Match once. So I am really excited for him to come to Barca, but I hope you guys won’t be hit hard by that.Posted from
