Werkself to play Bursaspor in Radyospor Cup final
By: Ulf | January 13th, 2009
Leverkusen continues gear up towards the return of the Bundesliga after the winter break with a successful run in the Radyospor Cup. Following a 3-1 victory over Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray 3-1 in the semi-final, they will now face Bursaspor in the final.
As a friendly, Bruno Labbadia was more concerned with players getting ample opportunity to show their abilities and used significantly different sides in each half. Leverkusen came out with a near complete first team and were able to gain a two goal margin before the break with goals by Tranquillo Barnetta and Patrick Helmes. At the restart Stefan Kießling, Tranquillo Barnetta , Michal Kadlec and Tunisian international Karim Haggui were replaced by Richard Sukuta-Pasu, Thomas Zdebel, Constant Djakpa and Lukas Sinkiewicz. Although they did not possess the same “punch” as the unit in the first half, Richard Sukuta-Pasu countered with a strike in route to a 3-1 victory.
While it is just a friendly, a victory is always a good habit!
