How I Spent My Pokal Vacation
By: Scott | October 28th, 2009Dear Diary;
Well, all the other kids went off to play in the Pokal this mid-week, but we didn’t get to go since Kaiserslautern took us by surprise and knocked us out at the last round. The other teams were very excited to get to the pitch with the hopes of ending the week a bit closer to raising that trophy in Berlin next Spring, but I don’t even care. We’re making our own fun and get to practice for the big match against Schalke on Saturday. Schalke are still in the Pokal. I hope they get knocked out today BUT only after they’ve all twisted their ankles and limped away, crying. That’d be AWESOME!
Our coach, Jupp Heynckes, has the flu and stayed home from practice so that none of us would catch it. He’s nice like that. I like him much better than that last dick and hope we all make him proud this season. He says he has faith in us and that we have all shown ourselves capable of success. I hope he doesn’t get fired like all our other coaches have.
Someone was talking about Stefan going to play for Juventus next season. That’d be terrible! Stefan has been playing very well for us (even if the National Team coach hasn’t noticed) and I’d hate to think that he could be lured away- especially before his contract ends in 2012 and ESPECIALLY to a team like Juventus, who are cheats. It would be swell to have him stay here at Leverkusen, where everyone is nice and doesn’t try to buy trophies.

I also heard that Manchester United were showing interest in hiring Rene away. That bothers me more because Rene used to always say how he dreamed of one day playing for Man U. He was younger then, of course, so maybe his brain hadn’t fully developed or he said that just because he thought he was supposed to, like when you say “Oh, no problem” after someone thanks you for doing something you really didn’t want to do.
Our last training session went well, but Simon and Renato are still not ready to join the squad. Last weekend we really noticed their absence and with Saturday’s game being very important to our staying on top, I’m a bit worried. We all talked about how badly we played against Dortmund, and no one even blamed anyone else in particular. It was more like “Hey, we all sorta sucked, so let’s all not suck like that again, okay?” Someone- I didn’t see who- made a joke about Arturo not making any promises he couldn’t keep and then we all laughed. Well… all except Arturo.
At training we also got to test a bunch of new balls for Adidas. They had all these different prototypes and we had to play with them and say what we thought of them and how they reacted in different situations. One of the equipment guys said the last time he’d seen so many balls rolling loose on the pitch was when we played Köln. My GOD!! It was TOO funny!
There was some good news this week, too: Patrick, who has been off all season, has started doing some lighter training with us and hopefully he’ll be back alongside the Bayer 04 Strike Force before the Winter break; definitely he’ll be back by the time we start up again in January!
Well, that’s it for now. My hand is tired from writing and I also have to go get ready. Some of the gals from the women’s squad are coming by and we’re going to go see a movie. I’ll let you know if anything good happens….

ay dios mio Kießling’s getting called up for the november testspiele!! And you updated in the middle of the week. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come…good things such as Kieß telling juve to kiss it. And like man united keeping their dirty, debt-ridden paws far, far away from deutsche boys with confrontational cheekbones and worried eyeballs.

Wendy and Rene sitting in a tree….
I’m afraid the plot has thickened: http://bit.ly/1cQfK9
Rumour is one thing, Managers skirting questions is another. As much as I’d like to believe Adler is as devoted to Leverkusen as, say, Neuer is to Schalke, he has stated his love of Man U too often. But I don’t think the draw is money.Any footballer must want to play Europe at the highest level, and so far the closest Rene has gotten with SVB was the UEFA Cup dalliance. United offer consistent Champs League play, which has huge value to a player’s development.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player so visibly miserable as Adler looked last season when it became clear Europe wasn’t going to happen for the Werkself. If he could have walked away in the summer, I’m sure he would have. And even though we’ll without a doubt be finishing this season with an invite to the inter-league festivities, there’s still that whole boyhood dream thing to get over.
For now, cross your fingers if you have them.
