Henrique last year?
By: Ulf | January 24th, 2009Since arriving in Leverkusen on-loan from Barcelona, Henrique has made himself an important member of the club. The twenty-two year old Brazilian international is thought of highly and the club would like to retain him if not permanently, at least for the upcoming year.
Leverkusen director of sport Rudi Völler told Bild:
“We want to have Henrique with us for another season, but we definitely know it is Barcelona who will decide what do with him. We hope to find out his future in the next four to six weeks.”
The former Palmeiras player, Henrique sounds open to staying, should Barcelona agree:
“This does not only depend on me. I must obey the rule that Barcelona makes the final decision, although I want to go there.
“But if they prefer me to continue with Bayer Leverkusen, I will be happy. And the same if I am sent to another club. Although I prefer to play for Barcelona.”

As a Barcelona fan, I am very excited about this prospect from the news I’ve heard. But since Barca have (at the moment) 5 defenders (Puyol, Pique, Caceres, Marquez, and Milito), Henrique might stay at Leverkusen. But that is dependent on Milito’s recovery (he’s been out since April 08) and if he can compete well enough. If Barca bring back this incredible talent, they’ll most likely be selling Milito and loaning out Caceres. But I think its unlikely Barca will loan out Caceres, and the offer of loaning him out isn’t on the table (from what I’ve heard). Anyways, you guys should also know that I’m rooting for you guys to win the Bundesliga or place high.

I am also a Barca fan and I wanted to ask, how has he done till now? I have heard that he has done well and blah blah blah but I haven’t heard a Leverkusen fan express his or her opinion. In your opinion would he do well at Barca? Better or worse then Pique? Where would you rate him comparatively to other Defenders? What are his weaknesses and strengths? I know these are alot of questions, but I don’t know who to ask!

Flippy, I think you are right and I have not heard of Barcelona bringing him back.
Hawk, I sent him a interview in Portuguese as well if that would have been easier than German but never heard back. Hmm..maybe my Portuguese is not as good as I think : )
As far as his play his pairing with Manuel Friedrich has been a solidifying part of defending. Strategy with defending for Leverkusen leaves them open more than I like but he shows well, especially with experience in mind.
