easy sailing in DFB Pokal

By: Ulf | January 28th, 2009

Leverkusen warmed up for the second half of the year with an easy 3-1 victory over Energie Cottbus in the DFB Pokal. The match was not as close as it sounded as Leverkusen took a 3-0 lead before the break. Patrick Helmes opened the scoring twelve minutes after the start, following a link up with Arturo Vidal playing the ball up to Tranquillo Barnetta who then provided Helmes the finishing opportunity. Michal Kadlec made it 2-0 just before the half-hour as he headed in Tranquillo Barnetta corner. Renato Augusto scored the third just prior to the break as he ran half the pitch with the ball before driving the ball in from sixteen meters. The second half was a easy going run out and Ervin Skela scored a consolation goal for Cottbus from a free-kick at regulation as the match ended 3-1. It was precisely the start Bruno Labbadia wanted and allowed an easy played second half ahead of Saturdays match against Dortmund.
