Bernd Schneider – on the road to recovery

By: Ulf | January 5th, 2009

Leverkusen is in line for a big boost as Bernd Schneider’s comeback has taken another step forward as he has begun his first training measures in nine months after back surgery. The versatile thirty-five year-old midfielder underwent surgery after slipping a disc in match against Stuttgart last spring but was out with the clubs first practice back from the break. Receiving a round of applause from fans he went through the practice without any pain, saying after:

“It would be wrong to go all out right now, but it was a great feeling to be back with the team. The most important thing now is to get back to full fitness.”

With eighty-one international appearances, Joachim Löw hinted his days for Germany are not done:

“I still hope that he will come back. First for his club, then for us. He would not deserve to go out like this.”

I adore Bernd. He’s a fantastic, top-quality player and I’m looking forward to seeing him back on the pitch soon.
